Blue Note Honey Bourbon Cask Returns For Limited Release
Blue Note Honey Bourbon Cask features a unique double-barrel aging process using honey-infused American oak barrels. The limited-edition bourbon showcases Blue Note’s Memphis heritage with just 1,800 bottles available nationwide.

Blue Note Bourbon has announced the return of its Honey Bourbon Cask expression, which sold out within days of its 2024 release. The Memphis-based distillery is releasing just 1,800 bottles of the limited-edition whiskey, priced at $64.99.

The distinctive bourbon undergoes a unique double-barrel aging process. After initial aging for at least three years, the whiskey returns to American oak barrels that previously held barrel-aged honey. This innovative finishing technique creates what the distillery calls “the art of fusion,” resulting in a 113.86 proof (56.93% ABV) unfiltered bourbon.

The expression showcases a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley. According to official tasting notes, the nose presents vanilla, cedar, and nut aromas. The palate reveals leather, pear, cedar, wildflower, and honey flavors, while the finish is described as gentle and warm with lingering hints of wildflower and honey.

Blue Note produces its whiskey in partnership with Lofted Spirits, parent company of Green River Distilling Company. The bourbon ages in Memphis, where the Mississippi and Wolf Rivers meet, with the city’s hot summers and cool evenings contributing to the maturation process.

“The long summers filled with infamous Memphis heat and cooler evenings forces the whiskey deep into the oak, creating an unmistakably rich flavor that’s bold yet smooth,” the company stated in its announcement.

Memphis Distillery Expands Premium Whiskey Portfolio

Founded in 2014, B.R. Distilling Company operates as Memphis’s oldest licensed distillery. The company’s facility on Royal Avenue offers tours Thursday and Friday for $10, with optional tasting flights available for an additional $5.

Blue Note’s portfolio includes several expressions beyond the Honey Bourbon Cask. The flagship line features Juke Joint ($34.99), Crossroads ($44.99), Uncut ($49.99), and Straight Rye Whiskey ($34.99). The honey barrel finishing technique represents a growing trend in American whiskey production, where distillers experiment with secondary maturation in barrels that previously held other spirits or ingredients. This approach allows producers to create distinctive flavor profiles while maintaining the bourbon’s traditional character. Given the previous release’s rapid sellout, the limited 1,800-bottle run may not last long on shelves.
