German independent bottler Barrel Beast has announced the launch of Raisin Sun, an 8-year-old Inchgower single malt finished in a first fill Pedro Ximénez octave cask and limited to just 99 bottles. The expression marks the fourth release in the brand’s acclaimed Unleashed Octave Series and will go on sale exclusively through www.barrelbeast.com on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. CEST, with a recommended retail price of €115.00 ($134USD equivalent at time of purchase).
Raisin Sun was distilled at the Speyside distillery Inchgower in 2016. It was matured for eight years in a first fill PX octave cask — a small format barrel holding approximately 50 liters — before being bottled at cask strength of 55.3% ABV.
The bottling is presented at natural color and non-chill filtered, consistent with Barrel Beast’s standard across all releases.

READ THE STORYThe Unleashed Octave Series exclusively features whiskies that have completed their full maturation in small first fill sherry octave casks. Raisin Sun follows Dark Malt, a Caol Ila released in 2022, and Raw Sienna, an Inchgower released in 2023.
Barrel Beast describes the smaller cask format as key to the expression’s character, noting that first fill PX octave casks maximize wood contact and flavor development. The brand says this results in “maximum complexity, deep fruit and a velvety texture in every sip.”
Official tasting notes from the brand describe the nose as featuring “fresh nana mint melds with rich, spicy raisin aromas” alongside “a delicate floral elegance meets warm, toasty wheat.” On the palate, the brand notes “rustic bread meets bright citrus zest and smooth cocoa notes” with “luscious cherry” and “a slightly medicinal edge.” The finish is described as “medium-long to long, with sweet plum compote and dark rye bread,” rounded off by “a hint of spicy ginger and buttery caramel.”
Each bottle contains 500 ml and carries the cask reference 300748A.
Founded in 2020, Barrel Beast has positioned itself as one of the most prominent independent bottlers in the German-speaking market. All of its releases are bottled at cask strength, natural color, and non-chill filtered.
The company has confirmed that a fifth and final edition of the Unleashed Octave Series, titled Dubh Mòr, will be released in late 2026. Due to the strict limitation of Raisin Sun, the bottler recommends prospective buyers sign up for the newsletter on its website to receive early notification.
