A new documentary series examining alcohol production worldwide has launched. The five episode series features an in-depth look at Scotland’s The Macallan distillery among other renowned producers. The series, titled “Drink: A Look Inside the Glass,” is now available to watch in on Apple TV, Prime Video and Tubi and in the UK on Apple TV and Prime Video.
Created by three Canadian brothers—Ryan, Brad, and Nick Freeman—the five-episode series spent two years filming across six countries. The production team conducted 46 interviews with master distillers, brewers, and industry experts to document traditional and modern production methods.
Behind the Scenes of Premium Whiskey Making
The whisky episode provides viewers with exclusive access to The Macallan’s production facilities, exploring the distillery’s approach to creating sought-after single malt scotch whisky. The documentary captures the complete production process, from barley selection through maturation in oak casks.
“Far more than just a travel or tasting show, Drink invites you into workshops, distilleries, breweries and vineyards, revealing how producers use their ingredients, terroir, and generational knowledge to make a drink at its highest level,” the creators stated in their press release.
The series has earned recognition from the spirits and entertainment industries, winning a Webby Award for Best Food & Drink Series, a James Beard Award for Best Travel Show, and three Telly Awards. The Freeman brothers’ production company, Northwinds Productions, filmed the series in 8K ultra-high definition to capture landscape details and production environments.
Each episode runs approximately one hour and includes official tasting notes from the featured producers. The documentary format combines traditional interviews with cinematic footage of production facilities and surrounding landscapes. Audio was recorded using 360-degree microphones to create an immersive viewing experience.
