The World’s Best Tennessee Whiskey According to the World Whiskies Awards 2026

Tennessee whiskey is one of America’s most tightly defined styles. To carry the name, it must meet all the legal requirements of bourbon and undergo the Lincoln County Process (only one distillery is the exception to this rule), filtering the new spirit through charcoal before it enters the barrel. That additional step has long defined Tennessee whiskey’s smoother, more rounded character.

At the World Whiskies Awards America 2026, the Tennessee category belonged to one name. Jack Daniel’s secured both the overall Category Champion title in the No Age Statement division and the top spot in the 13 To 20 Years bracket.

The two winning expressions show how broad the Tennessee style can be, from bonded structure to extended maturation.

Category Winner – Best Tennessee Whiskey (No Age Statement)

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey

Tasting Notes: Seared corn, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, toasted marshmallow, maple, oak, herbs

Find Your Next Bottle: $27

Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey forms part of the distillery’s Bonded Series, a line built around the Bottled-in-Bond Act. That means it is bottled at 100 proof, produced in a single distillation season at one distillery, and aged a minimum of four years in oak casks.

Like all Jack Daniel’s releases, the whiskey undergoes the Lincoln County Process before barreling. The result is a structured yet approachable expression that emphasises caramel, oak, and spice without pushing into extreme proof or experimental finishes.

As a widely available release, it represents a modern reaffirmation of classic American whiskey standards. Its win reinforces how bonded structure continues to resonate with judges, and demonstrates Jack Daniel’s ability to produce revered whiskey beyond Old No. 7.

Category Champion – Best Tennessee Whiskey (13 To 20 Years)

Jack Daniel’s 14 Years Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 1

Tasting Notes: Sweet, creamy pipe tobacco, seasoned oak, butterscotch

Find Your Next Bottle: $845

Jack Daniel’s 14 Years Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 1 represents a very different side of the distillery’s portfolio. With an age statement well beyond the brand’s flagship expressions, it reflects extended maturation in Tennessee’s climate.

Longer aging brings deeper oak integration, richer caramelisation, and greater structural weight. As a batch release rather than a permanent core bottling, it sits firmly in premium territory and is likely to be more limited in availability.

Where the Bonded expression emphasises regulatory clarity and balance, the 14-year-old highlights maturity and depth.

The 14 Year Old has become something of a ‘unicorn’ bottle — extremely hard to find, and very expensive should you come across one.

A Defined Style, Two Expressions

Jack Daniel’s sweep of the Tennessee category demonstrates the strength of the Lynchburg distillery’s portfolio. The Bonded release shows how classic structure and accessibility remain competitive. The 14-year-old illustrates how extended aging can elevate the style into premium territory.

Given that most whiskey drinkers (and even those who are not partial) have tasted the standard Jack Daniel’s Old No.7, and the fact that this whiskey is known across the world, Jack Daniel’s has demonstrated that innovation can and does happen behind the doors of the distillery in Lynchburg.
