Springbank Distillery, in the Campbeltown area of Scotland, is small but notable for two distinct reasons. The first is it is one of only three still continuing to produce whisky in a region that once boasted as many as 28 distilleries, while the other is it is one of only two in all of Scotland that handles every step of the whisky making process onsite. It has a new release coming to market shortly to take note of, which is the 2014 edition of its very popular 21-year-old expression.

READ THE STORYThe 21-year-old Springbank appears for 2014 to be limited to just 2,700 bottles for worldwide release which, while pretty limited, is actually up from just 1,680 bottles last year. What you get this time around will price around £180 ($295 USD) per 70 cl bottle when it debuts shortly.
Tasting notes from the distillery for this release indicate that this golden colored whiskey, bottled at 46% ABV, has on the nose “toffee and cereal notes, interspersed with bursts of freshly picked strawberries and ripe watermelon.” It opens up on the palate with a “dry creamy oiliness [that] points to the Fino Sherry casks used in maturation while background maritime influences demonstrate this is a true Campbeltown Malt. Sugared almonds are heavily present as well as a dash of cinnamon.”
