Even with the global renaissance whiskey sales have been experiencing in recent years, not all distilleries in Scotland have survived. Some have shuttered over the decades, with their stills never likely to produce quality Scotch again. Others, though, have come back under new ownership, and one of these is Glenglassaugh Distillery just outside of the Speyside region. It recently released a 30-year-old expression as a sign of its coming back to life after first being revived by one entity and then expanded by another.The Glenglassaugh 30, bottled at 44.8% ABV, is described by the distillery as a marriage of its “finest casks from our coastal warehouses.” Here are the complete tasting notes from those behind this special offering:
Colour: Amber.
Nose: Rich, complex and full with luxurious tropical fruits of peach, mango and banana, complemented with sultanas, sherry and gentle oak spice.
Palate: Sweet and soft with near perfect balance of fruit; mango, orange, figs and sweet sultana followed by a wave of sherry, toffee and ginger oak spice.
Finish: Warm, soft and gently spiced.
No specific pricing for this very old Scotch was mentioned. As for future releases, its new owners indicated more “planned developments” were on the way.
