Ardbeg Salutes World Cup With New Limited Release Whisky

auriverdesThe Scottish distillery Ardbeg, located in the Isaly region, loves their peaty whiskies. Unlike the anCnoc brand, which just recently returned to peat in some of its offerings, Ardbeg is about as heavy into this moss as it gets. Its latest release, Auriverdes, is certainly set to continue that trend.

Ardbeg Auriverdes, according to the distillery, will launch globally at the end of May. Its name is derived from the color of the golden whisky (auri) and this release’s green bottle (verde). It is also the nickname of the national football team of Brazil, hosts of this summer’s World Cup, and acts as a salute to the upcoming world soccer tournament.

Bottled at 49.9% ABV and non-chill filtered, this nearly $100 a bottle offering will be a limited release affair. Tasting notes from the distillery are below for this whisky that was matured “in American oak casks, with specially toasted lids that were tailor-made” for it.

AromaTarry and herbal notes with hints of mocha

TasteCoffee grounds pass to smoked root vegetables, while maple-cured bacon collides with hot-smoked salmon

FinishA lingering, smoky vanilla note
