The anCnoc Scotch whisky brand, housed in Scotland’s Knockdhu distillery, continues to show that, despite being more focused on lighter whiskies these days, they want to also still have a foot in the more peaty world. Their latest release, the dark and smoky Rascan, aims to be another fine example of this practice. It is a limited edition release, being available globally in only 3,000 cases and pricing at around £52 ($80 USD) a bottle. Tasting notes from the distillery are below.
As with all peated malts, on the nose the new expression has plentiful depth and smokiness, but also honey sweetness, refreshing green apple and zesty accents of orange and lemon so typical of anCnoc.

To taste, sweet and spicy notes of vanilla and honey are carried forward at the first sip. Hints of toffee then push through, outlined by subtle spices and a smooth leathery undertone. The finish is floral yet pleasantly smoky.
