Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch recently introduced a limited-edition whisky designed for “switching off and enjoying uninterrupted moments.” They call it “The Offline Edition.”

In a statement from the distiller, they tout new research that shows the extent to which phones are interrupting important moments with others. That research states that more than half (52%) of adults surveyed say they’ve forgotten what they’re saying mid-conversation because they are distracted by their phone.

More than a third (38%) of those adults admit to checking their devices frequently when enjoying special moments with friends and family.

Based on these numbers, Glengoyne made The Offline Edition using an aluminum inner cylinder to turn the whisky box into a digital black spot, which reportedly can block out electromagnetic signals for up to four smartphones.

The packaging was inspired by the original Faraday cage, invented just three years after Glengoyne began making its whisky in 1833.

The Offline Edition boxes will be installed in premium whisky bars around the globe, including the UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, and the U.S.

A limited run of The Offline Edition boxes will soon be available to purchase for £120 via www.glengoyne.com. Each purchase will include a 70cl bottle of Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter Three.

Barbara Turing, Brand Manager at Glengoyne, said that no matter where people are, or how hard they try, there’s a temptation to check phones, or be distracted by someone else’s screen lighting up at the table.

“It’s no surprise that time away from our tech has become one of the greatest luxuries of all,” she said. “As Scotland’s slowest distilled malt, we’ve always celebrated being unhurried. The Offline Edition gives a new meaning to the term ‘second use’ – a special box that gives us all some time back for our own special moments with others and to savor a great tasting dram.”
