Four Great Whiskeys for a Bachelor or Bachelorette Party

Summer is wedding season, and we’re guessing you’ve got at least one or two nuptials to attend before it is all over. And for all the weight of expectations and family drama, we’ll say it—weddings are fun. But you know what are more fun? Bachelor and bachelorette parties.

Whiskey and bachelor/bachelorette parties go together like bacon and eggs. But they’re probably not the right venue for that extra-special (and extra-expensive) bottle you’ve been saving. Instead, take a whiskey that tastes good, but won’t make you cringe if somebody shoots it and then screams “Wooo!” So whether you’re headed out for a night on the town, or packing up for a weekend away with the bride- or groom-to-be , we’ve got ideas for the best whiskeys to take along for the ride: affordable, crowd-pleasing, and just celebratory enough.

Bushmills Black Bush

Is it a shots-of-Jameson kind of crew? Go one step up with a bottle of Bushmills Black Bush. It’s an extra-rich formulation of the signature triple-distilled Bushmills bend, this time featuring a big dose of eight- to ten-year-old malt matured in sherry casks. Big flavor and a great price to quality ratio snagged Black Bush top prize in the Irish category at the World Whisky Awards in 2010.

Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond

A favorite tipple of Louisville natives, Old Fitz BiB is a wheated bourbon from Heaven Hill. Wheat in the mash bill gives a younger whiskey like this a lovely sweet flavor and soft mouth feel, making it a safe bottle to bring to even a not-sure-about-whiskey kind of gathering.

White Horse

Is it a hipster wedding? This old-school, cult favorite blended Scotch reportedly has a significant dose of Lagavulin malt in its makeup. Honeyed and peated,White Horse tastes like a friendly tire fire, and has a vintage-style yellow label to boot. Looks great on Instagram nestled up with the band-tee-bangs-and-glasses crew.

 Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey

Headed out of town for a fishing weekend with the guys? Snag a bottle of Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey on your way out of town. Made in eastern Washington, one of the nation’s most productive wheat-growing regions, Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey is a soft, floral whiskey with pronounced cereal notes, nice on its own or in cocktails. It’s also made by one of the early movers in the craft whiskey game, which means Dry Fly has had a few extra years to work out the kinks than the newer guys.
