Older Irish whisky, especially anything over 20 years of age, is always something worth trying a dram of should you get a chance. A recent blended whisky release from Beam Suntory through its Kilbeggan Irish whiskey label looks like it very well could fit this need, should you be able to find a bottle of this limited edition 21 year old spirit in stores. The Kilbeggan distillery, owned by Beam Suntory’s Cooley Irish whiskey operation, has a bit of history as far as whisky makers go in this small island nation. Originally in operation in 1757, it changed hands several times over the course of two centuries before closing in 1957. Cooley later purchased the license to produce whisky under the Kilbeggan name, as well as restarting whisky production at this facility in 2007.
This bottling, though it is said to be available at European travel outlets, is already appearing online for sale at a range of overseas shops. Celtic Whisky Shop, for example, is pricing it around $115 and ships to some parts of the US.
