Seven Grand 515 W 7th St, LA

Started in 2007, this expertly crafted temple to whiskey has over 700 bottles to choose from, with rotating stock to keep you coming back for more. If you are there for a tasting, the Seven Grand hosts them in the back of the bar, in their signature Jackalope Room.

Blind Donkey 53 E Union St, Pasadena

Back in the old days, donkeys would sometimes be used to turn the wheels of mills that made crushed grains for whiskey. So as to keep the donkey’s subdued, the masters would blindfold them, hence the name “Blind Donkey.” At this bar, you can sample whiskeys from around the world in signature flights. With over a hundred to choose from, you can taste all night and still not get to them all.

Thirsty Crow 2939 Sunset Blvd, LA

For a long time, the Thirsty Crow was home to hipsters and low-class beer swillers. These days, however, the bar has re-branded itself as a haven for whiskey lovers, with a vast selection and expertly trained staff. The name of the game here is sustainability, and the staff and bar owners strive to keep all ingredients for their cocktails local and organic. One of the best things about the Thirsty Crow is Whiskey Wednesdays, when most of their selection is offered at $5 a glass.

Ten Pounds (£10) 225 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills

If you’re at all familiar with the 90210 area code, you know that it stands for high-class and affluence. Thus, it is fitting that the Ten Pound Bar is one of the most exclusive whiskey bars in the LA area. Tucked within the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills, this bar is invite-only and caters to the best of the best. Should you ever find yourself there, the Ten Pound specialized in Macallan Single Malt Whiskeys. Most of you should know that Macallan is one of the top-tier whiskeys in the world, with glasses costing an arm and a leg. If you want decadence and style, the £10 is the place for you.

The Daily Pint 2310 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica

Although the name might suggest beer, the Daily Pint is actually a great place for whiskey. While this place doesn’t necessarily specialize in this liquor, you can try scotches, bourbons, and whiskeys from around the world in this humble setting. If the Ten Pound is a symbol of opulence, the Daily Pint is the exact opposite, but in a good way. The owner, Phil McGovern, is a friendly Londoner who will be more than happy to share a drink with you, as long as you’re paying.
