The Bardstown Bourbon Company recently released its second collaboration with The Prisoner Wine Company. The new release is a 100-proof, ten-year-old Tennessee bourbon aged for 18 months in French Oak red wine barrels used to age the wine company’s product, The Prisoner Red Blend.
With a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley, the bourbon contains what’s described by the brand as dark fruit aromatics, honey, vanilla and baking spices with hints of the original premium grape blend, leading into a balanced finish.
Bardstown Bourbon’s collaboration with The Prisoner Wine Company stands as the latest release in the distillery’s award-winning Collaborative Series, a line of innovative bourbons, finished in barrels from globally recognized distilleries, winemakers and brewers. The first collaboration between the brands made its debut in December 2019.

“At The Prisoner Wine Company, we strive to continue our irreverent approach to winemaking and to evolve our role in the industry in unexpected ways, and our partnership with Bardstown Bourbon, whose red wine barrel-aged embodies our brand’s sense of daring,” Director of Winemaking for Prisoner Wine Company Chrissy Wittmann said in a prepared statement. “It’s been exciting to use barrels from our namesake wine in such a dynamic way and to build upon the success of this first release with this new collaborative bourbon.”

“The collaborative expressions we have released to date have all been highly coveted, and very limited, so we’re excited to give consumers another taste of this one,” added Bardstown Bourbon Company Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing Herb Heneman. “Only 3,000 cases of this exclusive release will be produced overall and thus on an allocated basis for distribution.”

Founded in 2014, Bardstown Bourbon Company produces custom rye, whiskey and bourbon for prominent brands including High West, Belle Meade, Hirsch and many others through its Collaborative Series. The new collaboration is available for a retail price of $124.00/750 mL within all of the distillery’s current markets, including KY, IN, TN, IL, OH, CA, D.C., MD, DE, CO, NV, TX, NY, GA and MI.
