Of bourbons at this point, one of my favorites is Angel’s Envy. Kentucky limestone water, Lincoln aged this Expression to the perfect level of richness and maturity (up to eight years) in the few American white oak barrels that made the cut. He then chose to blend those barrels into a single batch and age the bourbon in hand-selected port casks (up to three years) until he tasted a previously undiscovered sweet spot.
Bottled at 123-proof and 61.5% alcohol by volume, it prices at around $149 for a 750 ml bottle. Getting hold of a bottle will likely be very tough given that (1) it is one of the last craftings of Henderson and (2) only 350 total 9-liter cases are being released to retailers in a handful of states.
The flavor profile of this cask strength bourbon offers up a taste with hints of “vanilla and roasted chocolate collide, with distinct notes of plum and light oak. This complex mingling of vanilla bean, spice and dried fruits results in a subtle silkiness with a long finish.”
