The International Whisky Competition, which was held in Chicago this year, is one of the myriad of tasting panel based award events held for the whiskey industry annually. The results for this competition have just been announced, and while I could go through and highlight all the Scotch and big name bourbons which took home some medals, let’s focus instead on the winners from some craft distillers.First, I will mention the Whisky of the Year went to Johnnie Walker‘s King George V blended Scotch. I really only point this out because it was the big winner overall and deserves some kudos. As far as craft whiskey players go, here’s the broken down list:
- Best Small Batch Bourbon – Herman Marshall Texas Bourbon (bronze)
- Best Grain Whiskey – Middle West OYO Oloroso Wheat Whiskey (gold)
- Best Rye Whiskey – WhistlePig 12 Year Old – Old World Series Sauternes (silver)
- Best American Whiskey – James Oliver American Whiskey (gold), High West American Prairie Reserve (silver), New Holland Zeppelin Blend (bronze)
