Scotland’s Glencadam Distillery recently launched a limited-edition, 15-year-old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky. They call it the Reserva de Jerez.
A statement from the Highland distiller notes that this expression is limited to 9,420 individually-numbered bottles, and the Oloroso Sherry cask single malt clocks in at 46% ABV at its natural color.
Crafted by Master Distiller Robert Fleming, the Glencadam Reserva de Jerez uses whisky distilled in 2007, selected from Glencadam’s dunnage warehouses. It was initially matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks, then finished in hand-selected Oloroso Sherry butts that come from Jerez, Spain.
Fleming described the whisky as “handcrafted, using traditional methods passed down through generations to produce our award-winning spirit. Paying homage to the relationship between Glencadam Distillery and the famous Sherry region of Spain, these Oloroso Sherry butts impart unique flavors, which give depth and complexity to our Reserva de Jerez expression, to show a different side to Glencadam.”
His distiller’s notes show that on the nose, the whisky is rich with aromas of praline, roasted nuts, golden syrup and candied peels. On the palate, there’s sweet layers of maple pecan Danish, sultanas, milk chocolate and heather honey bound with nutmeg and oak spices. It finishes with warming notes of apple strudel and custard tarts fading into a linger of sweet spices and espresso coffee.
Fleming said that in April of this year, their previous expression Glencadam Reserva Andalucía was awarded 98 out of 100 points at the International Wine & Spirits Competition for the second consecutive year, taking home a Gold Outstanding Medal.
The Glencadam 15-year-old Reserva de Jerez is available to purchase from independent and specialist retailers in the UK and across selected European markets for a retail price of £105 per 70cl bottle.
