Glasgow’s Turntable Blending House Debuts Trio Of Limited Edition Whiskies

Brothers Alasdair and Gordon Stevenson, of Glasgow, recently converted their collective industry experience to launch a new blended whisky space, Turntable Blending House.

A statement from Turntable and the brothers explained that this venture, which launches this April, has been years in the making. The two whisky makers have put wood management at the top of their agenda as they developed the quality of their whisky stock.

Turntable launches with a trio of limited edition bottlings, this before their core range debuts later this year.

Younger brother Alasdair started his career at Benriach Distillery before moving on to GlenAllachie. In both roles, he explained, he learned the art of whisky blending, working under renowned Master Blender Billy Walker.

Learning the processes such as stock management, wood policy, cask selection and blending, Alasdair said he developed a clear vision on the direction of Turntable whiskies.

Brother Gordon worked in whisky sales, in markets in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East. He said he covered many miles for Inver House Distillers and Douglas Laing & Co, and gained insight into what stores and customers look for when purchasing whisky.

Gordon explained that he worked closely with production teams, participating in tasting panels and cask selections, interacting with distillery managers, and handling a diverse range of whiskies. This gave him a panoramic view of the industry and the nuances of its various production methods.

Together, the brothers have embraced a philosophy at Turntable of “no shortcuts.”

They’ve sourced casks from around the world to run a sizeable rerack program and develop the quality of their whisky stock. All Turntable blends will be married for three months, and all the final products will be natural in color and non-chill filtered.

The first of these products, coming this spring, are a trio of limited edition “tracks,” as they call them. Track 1 is called Joy.Discovery.Invention. Track 2 is Firestarter. And Track 3 is Purple Haze.

More information on the new blending house and its core range will be released later this spring.
