291 Colorado Whiskey Offers Up A New Experimental Wheated Bourbon

The makers at 291 Colorado Whiskey recently announced the release of a four-grain wheated bourbon, its first experimental wheated bourbon since the 2013 release of 291 Bad Guy Bourbon.

A statement from 291 notes that this new expression is called E Colorado Whiskey Batch 12, a marriage of barrels from two different wheated bourbon experiments that resulted in a four-grain mash bill. The whiskey clocks in at 121.6 proof and carries a suggested price of $149.99.

Head Distiller Eric Jett said the first barrels were filled in 2018, made with corn, malted white wheat, and rye malt. The founder’s batch was distilled in 2021 from corn, malted white wheat, and malted barley.

Founding Distiller Michael Myers said, “This is an approachable bourbon and is a nod to summer, with notes of cinnamon graham cracker, Big League Chew bubble gum, Sweet Tarts, Hot Tamales candies and toasted marshmallow.”

The 291 brand has now completed 12 batches of experimental Colorado whiskey. They tag each experimental batch with an “E”, and Myers notes each is an opportunity to test new ideas and create one-of-a-kind whiskeys using different mash bills or finishes to create new profiles of 291 Colorado Whiskey.

Earlier “E” releases from 291 have garnered international recognition, such as being named 2021’s World’s Best Wheat by the World Whiskies Awards.

The limited release of 291 E Colorado Whiskey Batch 12 will be available on their website, at Seelbachs.com, and for purchase at 291 Colorado Whiskey’s Tasting Room, as well as in Colorado liquor stores.
