Tasting Notes:

About:
A blended malt from independent bottler Wemyss Malts, who produce both a core range of blended whiskies and regular single cask releases. The Spice King 12 Year Old is a limited-edition version of the core range non-age statement Spice King bottling, combining a combination of malts from a mix of Highland and Islay distilleries. Only 5000 bottles were produced, bottled at 52% ABV.
Appearance:
Pale Straw
Nose:
Notes of oak, cinnamon, and clove. There’s sweet mellow smoke which dominates the nose.
Palate:
Opens with creamy heather honey and lemon drizzle cake citrus, before a hit of spices, pepper, clove, and cinnamon. Finally, there’s some light smoke.
Finish:
Medium, charred oak and pepper linger. There’s a hint of toasted barley and light peat smoke.
Comments:
This whisky lives up to the Spice King name, there’s plenty of spicy oak, pepper, and cinnamon. I particularly like the balance of sweetness, citrus, spice, and smoke on the palate.
I’ve not found any specific information about which Highland and Islay whiskies are combined to create Spice King, but this is certainly a pleasant and easy drinking blended malt at 52% ABV.
