Tasting Notes

About:

Taking inspiration from their core Caduro expression, The Caduro X is a limited edition English Single Malt Whisky of just 1,000 bottles celebrating 10 years of the Wire Works. A vatting of STR casks and first fill ex-bourbon barrels and a mix of “regular” and “alternative” distillation cut-points to provide a unique take on their first Provenance Core range release.
Appearance:
Light burnished cooper with a thick oily texture forming a near perfect barrier when swirled in the glass. Also the custom glass “twisted wire” bottle design is well worth mentioning.
Nose:
A sweet fruity nose like cracking open a tin of fruit cocktail in syrup. Red and green boiled fruit sweets with quite a spicy biscuit note, with a mix between gingerbread and apricot jam tarts.
Palate:
The first sip provided a soft earthy smoke with musty oranges and cola cubes. A chalky, oily texture which dries the mouth demanding another sip. The STR influence feels surprisingly strong with bursts of strawberries with a light dip of bitter dark chocolate. Whether it is the use of their “special waters” approach of using low strength spirit to proof down the whisky, but there is a clear and district, gloopy funky note.
Finish:
A long sweet and very dry finish, it really make you want to pour another glass. The light peat smoke is even more prevalent at the end of each sip with a slightly toasted crisp pear.
Comments:
This is another fantastic release from White Peak, and it is great to see them celebrating this distillery milestone. I personally feel if the abv was a touch higher this whisky could score in the high nines. Long may they provide experimental, exciting and innovative English whiskies.
