Every whisky tells a story of place, of patience, of people who care deeply about the spirit they create. The Tormore Legacy Series is the first chapter in a new era for our distillery, a celebration of the craft and character that define Tormore, and a tribute to the years that shaped it.
Distilled in 2003, 2009 and 2012, these three limited edition single malts mark the first vintage releases under the care of Elixir Distillers. Each one has been hand selected by distillery manager Polly Logan and master blender Oliver Chilton, drawn from single casks that speak to the heart of what makes Tormore unique.
At the core of each whisky lies what we call the “Tormore DNA,” layers of orchard fruits, buttery pastry, and soft sweetness, wrapped in a rounded, generous mouthfeel. It is a style that feels instantly familiar yet deeply distinctive, like returning to a place you have always known, only to discover it anew.
The 2003 vintage, drawn from four first fill Bourbon casks, is rich and confident, alive with notes of lemon peel, vanilla custard, and the warmth of freshly baked pastries.
The 2009 vintage carries the freshness of ripe peaches and meadow hay, a lively and textured whisky with bright citrus and spice.
And the 2012 vintage offers a glimpse of youthful vibrancy, coconut biscuits, charred oak, and poached pears layered over sweet vanilla fudge.
Together, they form a time capsule of Tormore’s journey, glimpses of the spirit before Elixir took the helm, each cask chosen to share our excitement for what is to come.
Limited in number, crafted with care, and rooted in tradition, the Legacy Series invites whisky lovers everywhere to experience Tormore’s past, present, and promise, one glass at a time.
A very dessert quality to the nose, but the kind of desserts that your Mum or Nan would make after a big family meal. Fresh sponge cake, toffee sauce, lemon drizzle cake, Madeira cake with glacier cherries, cake batter, freshly baked muffins and some light caramel.
There is a little touch of pepper on the nose, but this is also a very high ABV, so don’t let that put you off. It does calm down with some more time in the glass.
It starts off as very prominent with the ABV, the spice is very intense but once your palate gets used to the strength you get: malted barley, powdered sugar, poached pears, cream soda, black pepper, chilli powder and lemon balm.
The most spirit forward of the three releases, naturally. But it has a wealth of flavour on the finish that is missing from the palate. This really shines at the end with dark chocolate, cantaloupe melon, prosciutto ham, chilli powder, black pepper, lemon oil and sweet sage.
Not my favourite of the three releases but is the youngest and the most powerful. With water it does open up into this lighter, fruitier style of whisky – but with it being delivered at 60%+ it still has quite a lot to say, standing up and above a lot of other limited edition releases from other Speyside distilleries, and other distilleries as a whole.
