Tasting Notes

About:

The Cheshire is an English single malt produced at the Cheshire based, Weetwood Brewery & Distillery. Distilled from English malted barley, the whisky is then matured in American oak STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) quarter casks, then finished in European oak barrels. Natural colour and non-chill filtered, bottled at 46% ABV.
Appearance:
Dark Gold
Nose:
Fresh aromas of cut grass and hay open on the nose, shifting into vanilla and honey accompanied by touches of green apple and barley.
Palate:
A creamy mouthfeel on the palate, opening with vanilla and honey alongside dried apricot and peach. Notes of barley, oak and touches of baking soda and baking spices follow.
Finish:
A medium length, light, creamy and mellow finish with notes of honey, sweet stone and dried fruits, with barley sugars.
Comments:
Fresh and light with soft fruits and gentle spice, The Cheshire offers an accessible and easy drinking single malt – a great introduction to English whisky. The Cheshire’s core range single malt isn’t the most complex, but is a well rounded and balanced single malt. I’m from the Cheshire area so have previously had chance to sample some of the Weetwood Distillery’s limited-edition Cheshire whisky releases. I think this distillery is one to keep watching.

Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by The Whiskey Wash or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
