Tasting Notes

About:

Teaninich Daring Rye is an 8 Year Old limited edition and one of eight whiskies in Diageo’s Special Releases 2025. This is an interesting whisky in that it’s their first single grain Scotch whisky made using rye, an experiment from 2016 that used an unusual mash of malted rye and barley. Matured in ex-bourbon casks, it’s been bottled at 60.3% ABV.
Appearance:
Pale straw with tight beading and prominent legs around the side of the glass.
Nose:
Full of fruit with notes of apple, pear, redcurrant, lemon and orange. Vanilla, cream, and a hint of sweetness from honey, balanced against savoury cereal. Oak and wood spice towards the back.
Palate:
Medium mouthfeel. Rich, sweet fruit with more apple, pear, and redcurrant, along with the citrus notes of orange and lemon. Honeyed sweetness and a slight buttery quality. Vanilla, oak and wood spice.
Finish:
Medium to long and modest in nature, but well composed. Fruit moves through cereal towards oak and wood spice at the conclusion
Comments:
Something quite different, and a tasty something at that.
