Tasting Notes

About:

A limited edition, single cask release from the folks at Kingsbarns Distillery. Aged for a decade in an ex-Oloroso American Oak Sherry Butt, cask #7459, it has released 750 bottles at 46% ABV.

A dedication to Kingsbarns love of golf and the proximity it sits next to both St. Andrew’s and the Dunvegan Hotel at the facility.
Appearance:
Orange
Nose:
Classic Kingsbarns fruitiness, lots of lemon, green apples, apricots and raisins. Golden syrup, treacle, mango syrup and a tall glass of sherry and flavoured tonic water.
Palate:
Super sweet arrival with loads of treacle, brown sugar and spicy ginger. There’s something classic Kingsbarns hidden underneath that big, sweet sherry, too. It’s almost like apple or pineapple with pastry and caramelised sugar.
Finish:
I must say, even at 46%, this thing has quite a lot of presence. It’s spicy, tingly, sweet with more of those treacle and pastry notes, and a finish that last for a really, really long time.
Comments:
The price on this bottle is quite hefty for what it is, along with being a single cask that has been taken down to 46%. On paper, it doesn’t sound like the best deal for a whisky drinker. Flavour wise, it does deliver. It’s the hugely fruity house style of the distillery with waves of sweet sherry, classic British desserts and tingles if spicey ginger and barrel influence.
