Glen Scotia 12 Year Old is a defining expression of the distillery, showcasing its coastal character and distinctive style. Matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, it is bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered, and natural in colour, staying true to Campbeltown tradition. The packaging highlights the distillery’s heritage, with blue drawn from the renowned Dunnage doors and white inspired by the historic walls.
Appearance:
Golden Brown
Nose:
Rich with all kinds of fruits, I get apple, pineapple, a little touch of mango and papaya. You can see why the packaging leads with this ‘tropical’ flavour profiles. Classic salty sea air notes of Glen Scotia, along with some nice maltiness, too. I get a huge waft of malty biscuits and barley grist.

The saltiness really does amp up when left in the glass for a while. It doesn’t turn it into a savoury whisky, but it does push down some of those more tropical, malty notes.
Palate:
A classic Glen Scotia, arguably a better introduction to the style than compared to the 10YO and the Sherry Double Cask, the Rum Cask is still wonderful. But this is malty, salty, slightly savoury on the palate at the start but you got little flashes of these bright fruity notes.

Green apple, pineapple and an idea of grilled pineapple or even mango with little chilli flakes on it.
Finish:
Drying, long and decently flavoured. I love Glen Scotia in ex-bourbon and this is a wonderful example of the style, especially for the money. The fruity notes die off but you get this warming, gentle salty notes that make you feel like you’re sat on a little dock in Campbeltown. Much more of those savoury barley notes, with salted butter and sourdough bread.

I love this. It’s a wonderful example of the style and does exactly what it says on the box, for a very attainable price for any sort of whisky drinker. It’s an affordable, tasty style of Campbeltown whisky that seems to be in stock at all good retailers. I
