Tasting Notes

About:

This peated single malt is one of two Tequila cask-finished expressions released in Glen Moray’s experimental Warehouse 1 collection. It’s the first time the Speyside distillery has used agave spirit casks for secondary maturation. The whisky was distilled in 2014 and aged in bourbon barrels for eight years before a finishing period in Tequila casks.
Appearance:
Pale gold
Nose:
Green, slightly ashy smoke upfront, with cooked pears, pastry and creamy vanilla. Salted crackers, cream cheese, and a rich citrus note like tangy lemon curd. Hints of bell pepper and honeysuckle.
Palate:
The citrus notes turn towards lime. Raisins, cooked plums, and a little dark chocolate. With time, sweet malty notes come forward.
Finish:
That ashy smoke returns for the finish, accompanied by some herbaceous and honey notes and a hint of clove.
Comments:
The peated spirit is a lovely complement to the gentle agave influence from the cask. Water brought out a green-apple note on the nose and honeyed sweetness on the palate.
