About:

Five Springs Infused Bourbon is Kentucky-born and bred. Their production materials describe the company thusly, “We created Five Springs because we believe bourbon needs a refresh. Made with premium bourbon aged in American oak barrels, blended and bottled in Kentucky and infused with natural fruits, botanicals, and other flavors. Our products honor bourbon’s roots while embracing the new and adventurous.”

Media release from their website describes the whiskey thusly, “Our boldest, most refreshing flavor is a need fulfilled. Whether you’re looking to enliven a classic or add some zest to your lineup, Blood Orange is like adding a banjo to the band. Try a Blood Orange Old Fashioned or Blood Orange Spritz, or enjoy neat or on the rocks.”

I’m intrigued. Infused bourbon is a common interloper to the whiskey world. Often used as the backbone in cocktails these infusions struggle to gain staying power. Often unable to thread that needle between reasonable cocktail addition and shelf occupant.
Appearance:
Amber with quick thin legs
Nose:
Candied juicy ripe oranges, there is a nice citrus crust, intermingled oak and leather. A soft chewy chocolate mingles about the mid-nose before returning back to dried orange peel.
Palate:
Something akin to a watery old fashioned. Dried orange peel with candied oranges, some bitters and a poke of smoke. The flavors are juicy and really quite captivating!
Finish:
Syrupy mouthfeel, very bright flavors and a touch of candied orange.
Comments:
I honestly want this in a candle, this one really resonated with me. I liked what they’re doing with this one a lot. I’m positive it’s not for everyone, and describing it as an “old fashioned” isn’t meant to be a direct comparison but more of a general idea of the profile, so don’t come for me later.

This is an overly sweet cocktail but easy to use as a great base if you bring in a heavier component piece to the spirit. I think it is my preference of the three I sampled, but they all have strong merit and truly stand out against most ‘infused’ whiskies I’ve had.

Enjoy!
