Tasting Notes

About:

Fettercairn The Journey is an official distillery bottling, created exclusively for UK retailer The Whisky Shop. This Highland single malt was crafted in partnership with The Whisky Shop’s ‘W-Club’ members. A member’s panel selected two ex-bourbon casks; Cask No. 2066 and 2067 which were both filled in December 2018, with the whisky then finished in dark stout barrels for a year. Limited to 528 bottles, Fettercairn The Journey was bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration at 47.9% ABV.
Appearance:
Golden Sunrise
Nose:
Bold aromas of tropical fruits including peach, pineapple, grapefruit and papaya accompanied by a touch of coconut open. The vibrant tropical fruits are balanced by fresh green apple and lemon citrus notes, alongside a discernible hoppy beer note.
Palate:
Toasted tropical fruits open on the palate, mango and pineapple seared on the barbeque. Lemon citrus follows layered with the sweetness of caramel Biscoff biscuits and a hint of chocolate, before a little white pepper spice emerges. Those hoppy malty beer notes linger throughout.
Finish:
A long finish, with candied lime sweets and caramelise brown sugar accompanied by a hint of nuttiness, before shifting hoppy malt citrus and toasted oak for a warming close.
Comments:
Fettercairn The Journey is an exclusive limited-edition from UK retailer The Whisky Shop, available online and in store retailing for £99.
A distinctive bottling from Fettercairn, I really enjoyed how The Journey combines the distillery’s signature tropical fruits profile with the dark stout cask finishing. The stout casks impart those sweet caramel and chocolate notes, but it’s the lingering hoppy citrus note which truly defined the experience of this whisky for me. Fun, different, and very drinkable – I’m tempted to treat myself to a bottle!
