Tasting Notes

About:

A bold and potent 95% rye mash-bill product that has picked up numerous awards over the years.
Appearance:
Gold
Nose:
Fresh mint leaves, pickled peppercorns, minted toffee and packets of all of the fresh herbs.
Palate:
Initially a little spicy but calms down after a few seconds on the tongue. A classic rye in many ways, lots of fresh herbs like mint and dill, with vanilla, toffee, pickle brine and salt.
Finish:
More of that savoury, pickle brine and dill profiles. It’s got some remaining sweetness that moves towards those mint notes, but this is pickled peppercorns, pickle brines, a slight jalapeno note that is very enjoyable and fresh mint to round everything out.
Comments:
It isn’t the most complex rye you’ll ever try, but it’s quite affordable and is in most large whisky markets. I don’t mind this at all as a neat pour; it’s simple but both effective and distinct. I can totally see why this is loved for cocktails as it has such a lingering spiciness and brings lots of herbal notes to the end of the taste.
