Tasting Notes

About:

Peated Scotch single malt aged five years in a combination of three American virgin oak casks and five Oloroso hogsheads; 50% ABV; 71 ppm; $75.
Appearance:
This is strikingly presented as a rich, dark brownish amber in glass with solid legs and distinct viscosity.
Nose:
Peat and honey are thick on the nose, leading the way for other aromatics of toffee pudding, creme brulee, vanilla sugar, and smoked meat.
Palate:
This really opens up on the palate, bringing smoke, sweet and spice in a delightful way. The notes here include rich chocolate, marshmallow, the slightest hint of black pepper, dried cherries, and black currant.
Finish:
The finish is long and delectable, with the higher ppm really carrying the smoky notes into my throat in a way that lingers long after my glass is dried.
Comments:
This is really a delightful dram, and my favorite of the ones from this brand I’ve reviewed so far. The higher ppm really makes the difference here in combination with the Oloroso casks.
