Tasting Notes

About:

A rather well aged example of Clynelish. Bottled as a 30 year old, at cask strength, with no coloring and no chill filtration in an ancient bourbon cask by Halcyon Spirits. A whisky geek’s dream!

Appearance:
Elderflower Cordial
Nose:
Ripe banana, green mango, elderflower cordial, fresh basil. Things get a little herbaceous as you let it sir. More fresh basil, thyme, and a little sage.

Absolutely bowled over by the freshness of it. For something sat in oak for three decades, it has such brevity to it. This is the perfect summer evening whisky!
Palate:

So soft and gentle, I’d be hard pressed to say this was scotch of any sort with that gentle delivery.

Not a drop of spicy oak, dryness, or anything astringent. Just mellow and sweet.

The herbs kick up again, but the banana, white chocolate and fresh raspberry notes are dancing around.

Finish:
Again, so gentle and easy. This is a delight to drink. The tropical fruit notes I’d wanted to find pop up a little more on the finish, mango, papaya and apricot are a wonderful contrast to the most subtle, soft oak notes.
Comments:
If I could afford to buy this then it would already be on my shelf.

It doesn’t have this big spicy notes that some may want from old Clynelish, but it a showcase of elegant aging.
