Jura Brooklyn Whisky Influenced By Local Artisans

It is not often you see a distillery from other parts of the world crossing over to the U.S. market to release something here that’s influenced by local culture. Such is what precisely happened recently though with Jura, a Scottish whisky maker that’s part of the Whyte & Mackay single malt portfolio. It, working with “12 respected Brooklyn artisans,” created and is now making available nationwide Jura Brooklyn.

Jura Brooklyn’s idea was born last year, when the distillery teamed up with these so-called artisans in New York City’s hippest borough to taste through “six different cask samples each reflecting the distinctive flavors of Brooklyn’s heritage (such as BBQ, Egg Cream and Artisanal Chocolate). During a series of blending sessions held in Brooklyn, the collaborators tasted different whisky marriages paired with fried chicken, artisanal cheese and fine chocolates, finally arriving at a whisky by Brooklyn, for Brooklyn.”

What’s resulted is a nearly $80 bottling that’s been aged up to 16 years in American White Oak Bourbon, Amoroso Sherry and Pinot Noir casks. Tasting notes for this release, according to Jura, include “notes berries, bonfire smoke, figs, roasted coffee beans, honey and currants [that] can be tasted throughout.”
