Bowmore 23-Year-Old Scotch Has Port Cask Aged Goodness

Bowmore23YearsOldPortCaskThe Bowmore Distillery is considered the oldest recorded of its kind in the well regarded Scottish region of Islay. Established in 1779, it has the advantage of having plenty of time under its belt to produce expressions spanning the decades. One of its latest is a 23-year-old offering that’s currently available globally in limited quantities.

The Bowmore 23-Year-Old, pricing for around $600 a bottle, has a worldwide distribution of less than 12,000 bottles. It was aged during its two decades plus long maturation exclusively in port casks. The bottling this rare Scotch is housed in is in turn itself hosted in a a deep-red hinged box that includes a a certificate handwritten by the Bowmore Distillery manager Eddie MacAffer.

Tasting notes from the distillery for this non-chill filtered, dark colored whisky indicate a “delicious feast of smoke infused blood orange, luscious layered autumn fruits, winter spices, black truffles and walnut oil balanced with the trademark Bowmore sea-salt tang.”
