Redwood Empire Whiskey, Seeding Forests, Plants A Million Trees

California’s Redwood Empire Whiskey recently marked a milestone that certainly agrees with the planet … planting a million trees.

The California whiskey is produced among the ancient forests of the redwoods in the Golden State. And in 2019, the California brand started its “Buy a Bottle, We’ll Plant a Tree” initiative.

A statement from Redwood Empire explained that when customers buy any of their whiskey (each named after iconic redwood trees like Pipe Dream Bourbon Whiskey and Emerald Giant Rye Whiskey), the brand plants a tree.

Since the start of the buy-one-plant-one campaign, it’s now seen a million bottles of whiskey sold and a million new trees planted.

This milestone was achieved with Redwood Empire’s tree-planting partner, Trees for the Future.

Trees for the Future is a Maryland-based nonprofit organization that’s planted more than 250 million trees since 1989. The organization provides hands-on agroforestry training and resources to farming communities around the world.

“The Redwood Empire is named after a 420-mile coastal stretch that lies between Monterey Bay and the Southern Oregon border,” noted Derek Benham, founder of Purple Brands. “It’s the only place on Earth where the venerable and mighty coastal redwoods grow and flourish. Sadly, 95 percent of the original ancient forest was harvested and never reseeded. This is the first of many milestones and we are incredibly grateful to our supporters that helped us get here.”

Redwood Empire officials look to hit the two-million mark in the not so distant future.
