mastersonsIt was inevitable that I would at some point start adding Canadian whiskies to the mix of blog posts I’ve been doing here at the Whiskey Wash. Masterson’s Whiskey, from the folks at 35 Maple Street, seems like a good one to start with because of two limited editions which were recently released.

The first is Masterson’s 12-Year-Old Straight Wheat Whiskey, pricing at around $79. It is crafted from “choice Canadian wheat and mineral-rich glacial lake water” in a copper pot, before having been laid down for 12 years to age in white oak casks. Bottled at 50% ABV, its flavor profile is described as on the nose offering “a  pleasant, slightly woody and vanilla-caramel scent” that, when tasted, includes “a light chocolaty flavor that lasts longer in the mouth.”

Joining this wheat offering is Masterson’s 10-Year-Old Straight Barley Whiskey, pricing the same. It is made from Canadian barley and the same water, it was doubled distilled before being laid to rest for a decade in white oak casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, it offers on the nose “a sweet sensation with hints of woody must, along with earth and oak.” The taste, meanwhile, “is distinctly smooth, light and summery, featuring a fruit aftertaste that bursts in the mouth.”
