Looking for something a little luxe to add to your liquor cabinet? Here’s an idea for you. This week, Sonoma County Distilling announced a very limited-edition release of a particularly unique expression: Black Truffle Rye Whiskey.

“The world’s first Black Truffle Rye Whiskey!” Sonoma County Distilling writes on their website. “This is our delicious rye whiskey with the stunning addition of French Black Perigord Truffles. We let these truffles steep to perfection in our rye whiskey for several months to deliver you this amazing richly textured, decadent, unique take on whiskey!”

Sonoma County Distilling is located in Rohnert Park, California, in the heart of Sonoma County. This release complements a full standard lineup of grain-to-glass whiskies made on an alembic pot still, including West of Kentucky Bourbon, 2nd Chance Wheat Whiskey, and Sonoma Rye Whiskey. We’ve reviewed another special release from Sonoma County Distilling, a cherrywood-smoked rye, here.

The release is selling for $80 for a 750ml bottle. Black Truffle Rye is only available through Sonoma County Distilling, and is sold at their tasting room as well as online.

The distillery provides the following official tasting notes:

Black Truffle Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes

“Earthy, soy sauce, petrichor (pleasant smell of wet earth after tain), licorice, Oloroso sherry, new leather, vanilla extract, caramel, and baked pie crust. Creamy, viscous mouthfeel of Medjool dates, anise, mushroom, and honey. A dynamic and ever changing whiskey. Pair with a dry aged steak or a good stinky blue cheese.”
