Ole Smoky Goes Aged Route With New Charred Moonshine Release

2014-03-22_08-16-12In the world of good old fashion moonshine, one of the more successful distillery operations has to be the Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery in Tennessee. This “Appalachian born and bred” operation was the first fully licensed distilling outfit in the eastern part of the state, and has done an amazing job at bringing the distillation of white dog from a backwoods experiment to a major force in the whiskey world. They’ve now moved into the world of aged product with the release of Ole Smoky Charred Moonshine.

Ole Smoky Charred Moonshine, which is available in the distillery’s signature mason jar, is described as “fine mountain whiskey” that’s been bottled at 105 proof. There’s no specific age statement mentioned, and tasting notes don’t exist yet on the distillery website as of this posting, but what I can tell you from what I’ve gathered is that

  • it is a 750 ml bottling
  • it is said to be “hand-crafted, smooth and slowly aged”
  • it will price around $40 when it hits nationwide retail this spring

I’ll put up more details on this as they are forthcoming, but suffice to say Ole Smoky likely has another winner on its hands.
