Tasting Notes

About:

A supremely dark and well aged single grain whisky that is here to showcase classic sweetness, but also some rather unexpected things to smell and taste with single grain whisky.
Appearance:
Super Vintage Port
Nose:
All of the sweet, welcome oak with touches of toasted wood, herbs and toffee. Some classic grain notes of acetone and some high distillation aromas, however, there still lies a prominent aroma of herbs like sage and thyme. Baked vanilla cheesecake, strawberries, something tart like quince or grape jelly – Baked caramel desserts, fresh pastry, biscuits straight out of the oven and loads of sugar sprinkled things.
Palate:
Armagnac! Loads of chewy prunes, red grapes, salted nuts, baked walnuts, maple syrup, pecans, sea salt, honey, cereal milk, more thyme and rosemary notes, a decent amount of oak influence that tries to push its way in from all sides of this powerful sweetness. A classic note of grain whisky pencil shavings and freshly sawn oak.
Finish:
A little more savoury as the finish rolls through. It has this salty, thyme driven flavour. You can feel the fudge, brown sugar and vanilla cream pulling through. It’s a long drying finish that brings through notes of wood polish, old oak and things that have been stored in ancient oak furniture for decades.
Comments:
This is a pretty decadent bottle of grain, that’s saying something. It has all of the rich qualities we look for in great grain, with this added rich factor. Along with those herbaceous notes that seem to be dominant throughout the whole sensory process.
