Tasting Notes

About:

A distillery that doesn’t get a lot of limelight, even in the modern world of Scottish whisky and its demands. However, what Single Cask Nation have done here is bottle one of the richest examples of the style that I’ve ever come across.
Appearance:
Burnt Orange
Nose:
Deep and sticky with toffee sauce, dates, figs, and steamed sponge cake. Ground almonds, dark chocolate, caramel and a little tingle of that big alcohol percentage.
Palate:
Nice and sweet to start with, it reminds me of Snickers bars with caramel, peanuts and nougat. Becomes a little drier as you hold it on the palate, almost comes across as a mix of rum and sherry put together. It’s sweet and spicy with balanced nutty, fruity edges to it.
Finish:
Bold and spicy – loads of rich coffee and dark chocolate with warming, sweet sherry covering all of these more robust flavour profiles.
Comments:
Easily one of the richest Glen Spey releases I’ve ever tried. It’s huge in flavour with a wonderful balance to it, as well as having a finish that is long, sweet, dry, even morphs into Cognac territory but with a bigger edge. With water added it becomes more focused on dark caramels and whisky liqueur flavours or honey and ginger. The finish is as long with a bigger nuttier edge.
