The Macallan Releases Tales of the Macallan Volume II in Celebration of 200 Years

The Macallan has launched a limited edition single malt whisky, Tales of the Macallan Volume II, to mark its 200th anniversary. This release pays tribute to Alexander Reid, the founder of the distillery, and the standards of excellence he established for the brand.

The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy, crafted the whisky, which originates from the year 1949 and was bottled in 2022, representing more than seven decades of maturation.

The whisky is presented in a bespoke handcrafted crystal decanter, designed by Lalique, housed within an almanac. The almanac features illustrations by British illustrator Andrew Davidson and tells the story of Alexander Reid.

This release is highly exclusive, with only 344 decanters available for purchase from select retailers starting January 26, 2024. In addition to the whisky, 100 limited edition folio sets, each comprised of three 30.5 x 46.4cm prints, have been created for the release.

This volume is the second installment in a series of rare single malt scotch whiskies. The first volume, Tales of The Macallan Volume I, was unveiled in 2022 as a tribute to Captain John Grant, Laird of Easter Elchies. Grant owned the site of the distillery, Easter Elchies, in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The Macallan is kicking off its bicentenary celebrations in 2024 with the launch of Tales of The Macallan Volume II. In January 2024, the distillery unveiled the ‘200 Years Young‘ Campaign, reaffirming their commitment to innovation and always looking forward. As such, it seems certain that the distillery will mark its anniversary with several exciting releases and developments. The Tales of The Macallan Volume II is likely just the start of the celebrations.
