Tasting Notes

About:

A limited-edition single malt bottling from Bushmills Irish whiskey, exclusively available to the UK market. Unlike Bushmills’ predominantly sherried core range, this whiskey was matured for 14 years in a combination of first and second fill ex-bourbon casks, before a 12-month finishing period in cognac casks.
Appearance:
Yellow Gold
Nose:
A sweet and fruity profile on the nose, begins with floral vanilla and an oaky note. Fruits follow first, sultanas and figs alongside plum and a hint of pear, giving way to a sweetness balance of white chocolate and custard creams.
Palate:
Starts light and smooth on the palate, initially vanilla and oak with a little ginger spice. Followed by stewed pears, which gives way to a sudden tart plum wine note which dominates the other flavours.
Finish:
Warming and lightly drying, there’s a hint of pepper but that vinous plum note continues to linger.
Comments:
Quite different to your regular Bushmills, and one to sample if you’re a fan of fruity whiskey flavour profiles. I’d have liked the sweetness displayed on the nose to be more evident on the palate, which could have possibly balanced the tart fruit vinous note.

Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by The Whiskey Wash or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
