Aberfeldy Releases 15-Year Scotch Finished In Napa Cabernet Casks

Single malt Scotch brand Aberfeldy, for the first time in the U.S., is releasing its latest addition to the Red Wine Cask Collection, Aberfeldy 15 Years Old Limited Edition.

A recent statement from the whisky maker notes that this expression is finished in special Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks sourced from Napa Valley.

Since 2019, Aberfeldy’s malt master, Stephanie Macleod, has explored how flavors from red wine casks interact with and elevate Aberfeldy’s aged malt.

She explained the creation process for the Aberfeldy 15 Years Old Limited Edition, as it first matured a minimum of 15 years in a combination of re-fill and hogshead casks. It then finished for a period of 10 months in Cabernet Sauvignon red wine casks sourced from Napa Valley, California.

The malt master’s notes show that Napa’s Cabernet Sauvignon brings big, bold and fruity flavors as well as notes of spice from aging in oak.

The resulting flavor profile, the malt master noted, has aromas and tastes of raspberry jam, violets, cinnamon, and fresh-ground coffee beans. This is alongside Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed profile.

The Aberfeldy 15 Years Old Limited Edition clocks in at 43% ABV and is now available for a suggested price of $69.99.
