Wales’ Penderyn Distillery Releases 2021 Penderyn Single Cask Whiskies

Award-winning Penderyn Distillery has announced the release of two new single malt whiskies – Penderyn 15 Year Old Bourbon Matured Single Cask and Penderyn 13 Year Old Rich Oak Single Cask.
Penderyn 15 Year Old Bourbon Cask (59% ABV) was matured in a Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrel for fifteen years. According to official tasting notes, the result is a nose of soft honey, vanilla and pears, leading into notes of oak and spices. On the palette, spongecake and marzipan, light oak, bourbon can be found, as well as soft yellow fruits with papaya and pineapple notes. A finish of honey, light tropical notes and light spices.

Penderyn 13 Year Old Rich Oak Single Cask (58.1% ABV) has been matured in Buffalo Trace Bourbon casks, before then being finished in an ex-European STR (shaved, toasted, re-charred) cask. According to official tasting notes, it offers a nose of caramel and dark chocolate, accompanied by tropical fruit notes such as melon, mango and papaya. The palate is sweet and jam-like followed by spiciness and notes of oak tannin. It finishes with fruit, such as prunes and sultanas, while the jammy sweetness dries in the fade.

These special releases are handpicked in partnership with the president of importer ImpEx Beverages Sam Filmus, who assists Penderyn‘s distilling team in making the final selections. In the last year, the distillery has won multiple awards for its whiskies, including a Double Gold Medal for its peated whisky, Gold Medals for the Portwood and Rich Oak whiskies in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and five Gold Medals at The Spirits Business’ annual World Whisky Masters event.

Priced at $170, Penderyn 15 Year Old Bourbon Cask is a limited release of 114 bottles and can be found on store shelves in CA, NE, MN, AK, TN, WA, DC, DE, MD and IL. Penderyn 13 Year Old Rich Oak Single Cask is available for $150 on store shelves in CA, NE, MN, AK, NY, WA, DC, DE, MD, IL, TX and TN, with only 232 bottles available.
