The Lakes Distillery Introduces The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5

The Lakes Distillery in England recently added The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5 single malt to their portfolio.

Matured in bespoke Oloroso, PX, and red wine casks made of Spanish and American oak, The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5 features what’s described as a sherry-led, wood-forward characteristic.

The Lakes distillers drew inspiration from the cellarmasters of France’s Cognac region to create a whisky with complexity and depth.

In a prepared statement, the distillers noted that rather than sealing the oak and waiting for the result, they used patience and time to provide an intimate understanding of how the flavors in each cask are developing.

By frequently effecting change throughout the whisky’s maturation, whether by moving a cask’s location, or transferring the spirit between casks, the distillers looked to evolve layers of flavor from which they could blend the final whisky.

Dhavall Gandhi, The Lakes’ whisky maker, said that with The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5, the team wanted to create a whisky with a similar sherry-led profile to previous releases, but with certain characters restrained to achieve a textural refinement.

“This is a whisky with seductively aromatic notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits, and a smooth finish with intricate layers of wood spice,” he said.

To celebrate the release of The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5, The Lakes Distillery sought the imagination of some of the best Old Fashioned makers in the world.

Mixologists from Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood London, The Berkeley Bar & Terrace, The Goring Cocktail Bar, The Chinoiserie at The Carlton Tower Jumeirah, and The Northall Bar at Corinthia London have used The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5 to develop their own takes on the whisky cocktail.

Each cocktail is designed to tell a story through the art of flavor creation, and they’ll be available to enjoy starting June 1st throughout the summer at any of those bars.

The Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.5 is non-chill filtered, bottled at the natural color, and clocks in at 52% ABV. It’s available from www.lakesdistillery.com and specialist whisky retailers throughout the UK with a suggested retail price of £70.
