The Lakes Distillery Unveils New English Single Malt Range

In the world of single malt whisky out of the United Kingdom, headlines are easily dominated by the various Scotch whisky distilleries old and new. There are others there making single malt, however, including the likes of the Lakes Distillery in northwest England. Located in Cumbria in the Lakes District, the folks here have just debuted what’s said to be the first single malts available for general sale from them.

The Quatrefoil Collection, according to those behind it, is a limited edition, four year collection which will release one bottle at a time between 2018 and 2021. These bottles – Faith, Hope, Luck and Love – each project what’s said to be “a different representation of what can be achieved using the multi-oak maturation technique” the whisky makers at Lakes focus upon.

To give a little more context to this, the first component of this whisky “was matured exclusively in first fill European oak Oloroso casks; the second in American oak PX casks. These two whiskies are then married together” to create the flavor profile that accents such notes as dried fruits, vanilla and spice.

Plans call for approximately 3,500 sets to be made available for acquisition. It looks to be available directly from Lakes Distillery for £895, or close to $1,200 USD, and includes a four-part presentation case.
