Israel’s M&H Distillery Has A New Cask Ownership Program

By Robert Ham / December 29, 2020

Israel’s first-ever single malt whisky distillers, M&H Distillery, is following the lead of many global creators of fine spirits with the recent launch of their Cask Ownership Program.

This venture allows collectors and whisky lovers a chance to have their own personalized cask—a choice of either Ex-Islay, Bourbon, or STR—set aside in M&H’s warehouse, where it will be overseen by the company’s head distiller Tomer Goren.

“The launch of our new private cask program represents a landmark moment in the history of the distillery,” said M&H CEO Eltan Attair, in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to be inviting worldwide whisky aficionados in our family and to embark on a long-term journey of Israeli whisky-making.”

During the initial three-year aging process, owners will have the option to visit the distillery to check on their casks and have a taste of the whisky, or they can get samples every year through the mail. After the three years, the owners have the option to either let the whisky continue to age or bottle it for themselves, to offer as a gift or to even resell it. Customers even have the option to design their own logos and labels for their bottles.

M&H Distillery is offering a range of options for potential cask owners, as listed below, which includes warehousing, insurance, and access to Tomer Goren for discussion of the maturation process.

  • The 56 liter Bourbon Cask starts at €875 (about $1,060 USD). Upon bottling after three years of maturation, expect an edition of 40-50 bottles of whisky.
  • The 200 liter Bourbon Cask starts at €2,778 (about $3,360 USD). Upon bottling after three years of maturation, expect an edition of approximately 270 bottles of whisky.
  • The 225 liter STR Cask starts at €3,205 (about $3,880 USD). Upon bottling after three years of maturation, expect an edition of approximately 300 bottles of whisky.
  • The 130 liter Ex-Islay Quarter Cask starts at €2,125 (about $2,575 USD). Upon bottling after three years of maturation, expect an edition of approximately 170 bottles of whisky.

The new Cask Ownership Program is another feather in the cap for M&H Distillery (which stands for Milk & Honey) as, just this year, they received gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge and the Frankfurt International Trophy for their M&H Classic single malt whisky.
