Indian Single Malt Godawan Introduced To International Market

After Diageo India launched the single malt Godawan in Jaipur, India, earlier this year, the distiller is now set to introduce Rajasthani tradition and culture to the world as it unveils the single malt across international markets.

After introducing the concept of Godawan at the 75th Cannes Film Festival 2022, the artisanal whisky dubbed the “Spirit of the Desert” now makes its way to another iconic desert destination – Dubai.

A statement from Diageo notes that Godawan is made in, inspired by, and dedicated to the Rajasthani ethos of “beauty in scarcity,” as well as sustainability. The whisky looks to pay homage to the spirit of a people known for their preservation and conservation skills, and for crafting exquisite things from whatever little nature provides.

The 100°F heat combined with six-row barley, which requires less water, helps create a whisky that’s described as being with a depth of flavor and a complex character.

The arid conditions where it matures finds Godawan has a higher “Angel’s share,” and the depth of flavor left behind is noted as being further enhanced by finishing in special casks curated with Indian botanicals.

“We at Diageo India believe consumers, culture and community lie at the heart of our innovation. Godawan will help the world and our consumers discover an aspect of Indian culture hitherto unknown – rich and meaningful,” said Hina Nagarajan, CEO of Diageo India. “This single malt is representative of what sustainable, mindful, purposeful modern Indian luxury looks like and Dubai is the right stage to take this story to the rest of the world. Godawan is not just rich in its story, but also in its distinct flavors.”
