English Whisky Maker Bimber Toasts King Charles With Special Release

London’s Bimber Distillery joins exclusive company as they recently announced The Coronation of King Charles III, a special-edition single malt whisky made from a blend of American oak ex-bourbon and ex-Bordeaux red wine-matured single malts.

The coronation special edition is available directly from Bimber’s website starting today. A statement from the whisky maker notes that this special release of 1,400 bottles is Bimber’s  first expression created from a unification of multiple wood types.

The base of ex-bourbon matured Bimber whisky features the distillery’s textural, fruit-forward house style, while the addition of single malt whisky fully matured in red wine sourced from Bordeaux adds complementary flavors of plump berries, shaved chocolate and tanned leather.

Bimber’s notes show that the celebration release clocks in at 52.2% ABV and has a suggested retail price of £85.

The design of the label and gift tube features the same look as the distillery’s 2022 Platinum Jubilee single malt whisky, with illustrations from the life and passions of King Charles III and his accession to the throne.

The whisky itself comes from the distillery’s single farm barley and malted on a dedicated floor at Warminster Maltings before being fermented for seven days in American oak washbacks. Distillation took place in Bimber’s customized alembic pot stills.

Bimber’s Matt McKay said that a coronation marks a very special moment in any monarch’s reign. “Bimber’s delighted to celebrate the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla with this equally special Bimber release.”

He explained that in the run up to the coronation, the distillery team spent many months assessing their developing inventory of diverse casks, while seeking out both contrasts and points of flavor congruence.

“This marriage of unique casks retains the profile of Bimber’s well-loved foundation of bright, expressive fruitiness, while adding layers of distinctiveness from the red wine matured whisky,” McKay said.

Bimber Distillery is one of the top producers of English whisky, and crafts its single malts in West London. For more information, check out www.bimberdistillery.co.uk
