English Whisky Co Honors Passed On Founder With Outstanding Limited Edition Whiskies, Case

The English Whisky Co, working out of its St. George’s Distillery in the England part of the United Kingdom, is known for turning out quality British single malts which aren’t Scottish. The young operation suffered a terrible blow last September when its founder, James Nelstrop, passed away. Now, in honor of his memory, the distillery is releasing a limited edition collector’s offering containing their most “exclusive whiskies to date.”

The English Whisky Co Founders Private Cellar Final Signature release, according to those behind it, carry the last bottlings of whisky Nelstrop had chosen for release from his family’s private stock, consisting of a six-year-old peated sherry cask aged whisky, bottled at 55.7% ABV, and a seven-year-old old rum cask aged whisky that was bottled at 55.1% ABV.

One bottle of each of these rare whiskies will be included in a special leather suitcase, which will also come with four engraved glass tumblers, one red china water jug, one founder’s autobiography and two certificates of authenticity (one for each bottle). Only 238 cases will be made available, pricing at £795 (around $1,190 USD) each.

“This is a particularly poignant and special release for The English Whisky Co,” said  Andrew Nelstrop, owner of The English Whisky Co, in a statement. “Not only is it extremely personal, as this will be the last whisky chosen for bottling by the distilleries’ founder, my father James; we also believe it is the oldest English Whisky ever to be released to the public. The whisky is incredibly rare and special and a real tribute to our distillers.”

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
