Australian Distillers Rally With An Auction To Raise Funds For Bushfire And Drought Relief

The devastating bushfire season in Australia has been one for the record books tragically, burning millions upon millions of acres of land, destroying thousands of buildings and killing an estimated billion animals and over 30 people. 100+ Australian craft distillers are now looking to help a charity in offering aid to the impacted, running through the end of February a charity spirits auction.

What’s being called the The Aussie Spirit Auction, according to those behind it, is currently raising funds through bidding towards 200+ donated bottles of whisky, gin, rum, moonshine, vodka, liqueurs, experiences and more. Many items are unique, limited-edition, rare or even unobtainable. Big names in the Australian craft spirits scene like Four Pillars, Starward, Archie Rose, Young Henry’s, Iniquity (Tin Shed Distilling Company), Brookie’s Gin (Cape Byron Distillery), Manly Spirits Co. and Never Never Distilling Co. are on board.

Of all that is being offered up at this auction, of which 100% of the funds raised will go to the charity Rural Aid, the most intriguing has to be something called “The Aussie Spirit.” Literally a new whisky in the making, new make spirit and barrels have been donated by distilleries and a barrel company, and the “godfather of Australian whisky” Bill Lark will be guiding the blending and maturation of this very special whisky in Tasmania. 5 barrels – each boasting a different, delicious expression – will be up for grabs.

Those interesting in bidding and seeing what’s available at the auction, which ends Friday 28th Feb 10pm AEST, can visit its website for more details (to register interest for the casks you must email [email protected]). I’ve been told international and remote bidders are very welcome to join in as well. Finally, to keep up on auction happenings, visit its Facebook page.

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
